What do you need for being an organ donor?

Alive donors, before getting operated, must pass an evaluation in order to determining if they are capable of order to becoming a donor. This exam is usually carried out in the centre where the transplantation is going to take place. This checkup is made for guaranteeing donor's health before, after and during the surgery. Generally speaking, donors should enjoy good mental and physical health, this includes not suffering from some diseases such as diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure or any type of kidney or cardiac disease. Also, alive donors must be in the age range of 18 and 65 years.

The organ donor card, is a document which express someone's desire to be a donor. However, it doesn't have real validity, because family is who authorises the organ's extraction. So, these type of cards testify the want of donating the organs after death.  Every able donor can get this card, digitally through the webpage 'Eres perfecto para otros'. But, also, materially, distributed by the different autonomous transplant organizations.

Regarding donors' age in Spain, more than half (57%) surpass 60 years, 31% the 70 and 9% the 80. Only 14% of donors are less than 45.
